Simons Jewish Community Archives seeks to hire an archivist to assist in its mission to collect, preserve, and make available the historic records of Jewish Detroit.
This position will assist the director in all aspects of the archive's daily activities.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Process physical and born-digital collections and write finding aids.
Digitize assorted media and upload it to the archive's PastPerfect database.
Answer research queries in a timely manner.
Special assignments that include outreach, exhibits, programs, and social media.
Physical Demands/Additional Requirements:
Occasionally required to walk, stoop, bend, and reach overhead.
Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Occasional evening hours may be required.
Education and
Experience:
RequiredMLS/MLIS or equivalent advanced degree.
Certificate in Archival Administration or equivalent degree.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively within and outside of the archives with staff, donors, and community members.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Ability to work in a one-room space with distractions from volunteers and researchers.
PreferredPrior archives experience, including processing physical collections.
Knowledge of PastPerfect.
Familiarity with Detroit's Jewish community.
This position is part-time, 22.
5 hours a week, at a rate of $25/hr.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
